Cat Grooming in Doha — What to Expect

Cat grooming is less common than dog grooming in Qatar, but it's equally important — especially for long-hair breeds and cats that struggle to groom themselves due to age, weight or health conditions. Here's everything you need to know about cat grooming at PetAura in Bin Omran, Doha.

Do Cats Need Professional Grooming?

Most shorthair cats groom themselves effectively. But there are several situations where professional grooming is valuable or essential:

  • Long-hair breeds (Persians, Maine Coons, Ragdolls) — prone to matting, especially in Qatar's humidity. Regular grooming prevents painful mats that can lead to skin infections.
  • Senior cats — older cats often can't reach certain areas and benefit from help with their coat, nails and ears.
  • Overweight cats — cannot groom their lower back and base of tail effectively.
  • De-shedding — reduces the amount of hair in your home significantly, especially during shedding season.
  • Medicated baths — for cats with skin conditions, flea infestations or fungal issues.

What Happens During a Cat Grooming Session at PetAura

Every session starts with a brief assessment of your cat's coat, skin and general temperament. We'll discuss what services you want and flag any areas of concern.

A standard cat grooming session includes:

  1. Brushing and detangling — removes loose hair, identifies and gently works out mats
  2. Bath — using cat-specific shampoo and conditioner appropriate for your cat's coat type
  3. Blow dry — gentle blow dry with cat-safe equipment
  4. Nail trim — all four paws, clipped safely to prevent overgrowth
  5. Ear cleaning — gentle removal of wax and debris
  6. Trimming — breed-appropriate trim if requested (hygiene trim, lion cut, or tidy-up)

How to Prepare Your Cat for Grooming

Cats are significantly more stressed by grooming than dogs. A little preparation makes the session safer and less stressful for your cat:

  • Don't feed a full meal immediately before the appointment — a lightly empty stomach reduces nausea from stress
  • Brush at home regularly between sessions — cats that are used to being handled are much calmer in the salon
  • Bring your cat in a covered carrier — a covered carrier reduces visual stimulation and calms anxious cats
  • Let us know about any health issues — heart conditions, skin sensitivities or medications affect how we approach the session
